biography

Ashley Hutton is a Sunshine Coast-born saxophonist, composer, and contemporary session musician whose work spans modern commercial music and improvised practice. An in-demand collaborator, he has performed and recorded with Grammy- and ARIA Award–winning artists and producers, contributing to projects that have reached audiences in the millions. His credits include touring the UK and Ireland with JUNO (QLD) in support of Drax Project (NZ), performing with LEISURE (NZ), and recording with ARIA Award–winning producer Konstantin Kersting on releases including Kita Alexander’s All Night and Keli Holiday’s ARIA #1 single Dancing2, which placed #2 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2026. He has also performed with Grammy-nominated artist Stonebwoy (Ghana), supported Lawrence (USA), and contributed horn arrangement and performance to JUNO’s 2025 QMA-winning single I’m the Man.In 2026, Ashley was awarded the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Creative Fellowship, supporting his current residency in New York City where he is undertaking intensive study at the Tribeca Jazz Institute through to July. This follows earlier international study in Toronto and New York, supported by the 2024 Simon Hatton Saxophone Bursary from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, and reflects an ongoing commitment to artistic development at the highest level.Alongside his performance career, Ashley is the founder and curator of Found Sound, a bi-weekly Brisbane concert series and jam session that has quickly established itself as a vital platform within the city’s jazz community.As a bandleader and improviser, he directs the Primetime Sextet, the Ashley Hutton Quartet, and his Trio, and has performed and recorded with artists including BARKADA (VIC), Dr. Jeff Usher, Jordy Stitt, Joshua Breakstone (JP/NYC), Rowan Pattinson (VIC), THNDO (VIC) and, Tosh Kachad (NYC). In 2026, he also completed a national tour with five-time Grammy Award–winning bassist Victor Wooten (USA), further extending his presence across international stages.
